Workforce Development Initiative: As part of the Mississippi River Delta Transition Initiative, I serve on the Workforce Development Initiative team to (1) increase the number of persons from key communities in the lower Mississippi Delta region participating in coastal research and activities, (2) advance opportunities for experiential learning that deepen understanding and increase science identities, (3) provide resources, training, and professional development that prepares students and teachers for the coastal workforce, and (4) create a robust mentoring network in the Gulf region that supports students and teachers at all levels. In 2025, I received a grant to develop coastal experience trips and a summer internship program to provide hands-on experience and research opportunities for students from Mississippi HBCUs, and I will be leading our first trip this upcoming March.
Skype A Scientist: I work as a scientific professional through the Skype A Scientist program, where I meet every semester with classrooms, families, libraries, scout troops, and more all across the globe to talk about my scientific journey and to answer science questions in the fields of ecology, marine and freshwater biology, and pollution.
