A Slight Calm Before the Storm of Events

This week was a gratifying, quiet week, with no major projects to finish, updates to work through, or presentations to give. While my week was quiet, I still attended presentations from others, research talks, and worked on a manuscript, one which I'm excited to continue. While I am someone who enjoys frequent and almost constant work, sometimes a little break helps me reset and prepare for upcoming events. In the next week, I have five meetings, a day at sea, and packing to accomplish to prepare for a conference that occurs the week following (which will be the focus of next week's blog).

Refreshes are also worthwhile when they allow me to reevaluate how I've been working through a task and to consider if there's an alternative way that may be more beneficial to the project goal. That's what happened this week, as I took time to consider some data analysis and opt for a better solution, which will support a more informative manuscript. I've also had time to think about science communication, as I've seen multiple research presentations this week that provided great, and some not so great, examples of effective science communication to a broad audience.

Short and sweet this week, but I know next week's blog will be longer, as I will be talking about my upcoming day at sea and then the immediate turnaround to make it to my science conference the next day. Stay tuned!
